Aviation Insurance FAQs
What does aircraft insurance cover?
Aircraft insurance typically covers damage to your aircraft (hull) and any legal liability that comes along with operating it. The level and type of cover depends on your policy.
How is the premium calculated?
We assess your policy based on things like how the aircraft is used, pilot experience, location, and more. Your state can also affect government charges and taxes.
Can I cancel my policy and get a refund?
As long as no claims have been made, yes. Your specific cancellation terms will be outlined in your policy.
What is an excess (deductible?)
Your excess is the amount you agree to contribute if you make a claim.
Can I lower my premium by increasing my excess?
Yes. Though minimum premium levels may still apply.
Can I make changes mid-policy?
You can make a variety of changes mid-term including adding pilots, amending sums insured, update usage, or change from ground to flight cover (and back again).
How do I make a claim?
Ask your broker to submit it for you through our platform or email us directly at aviation@withagile.com and we’ll take it from there.
Do you cover airshows and competitions?
Not by default, but we can include them on request subject to underwriting guidelines.
What’s the difference between TPL, PLL and CSL?
- TPL (Third Party Liability) covers damage or injury to non-passengers.
- PLL (Passenger Legal Liability) covers injury or damage claims made by passengers.
- CSL (Combined Single Limit) bundles TPL and PLL into one overall limit per event.
Does my LAME’s hangar insurance cover my aircraft?
No. Your LAME’s insurance covers their liability, not your aircraft. For proper protection, you’ll need your own policy.
Who’s allowed to fly my aircraft?
Only pilots who meet the conditions in your policy. This could mean only specifically named pilots, or pilots who meet minimum hours and experience levels if you have an ‘open pilot warranty’. Instructors and ground handlers are covered, too– check your policy.
